About:
The University of Koblenz-Landau is one of the youngest universities in Germany. It has about 11,000 students. The university's academic profile today is marked by a combination of Computer Science and Psychology together with the traditional Departments of Education, the Humanities, and Natural Science. A special feature of the University of Koblenz-Landau is its structure. Koblenz and Landau are the locations for research, teaching, and further education.
Most students on the Koblenz campus are enrolled in education or computer science. This makes Koblenz an ideal place for developing eLearning projects. The Knowledge Media Institute Koblenz (Institut für Wissensmedien IWM), in particular, is developing eLearning in a broad range of projects reaching from research and piloting of new technologies to staff support. The interdisciplinary nature of the institute, which brings together competencies from computer science and education, proved to be highly effective in joint projects with international partners.
The University of Koblenz-Landau is determined to support open technical specifications. In 2007 the university has been awarded the status of an IMS Global Academic Affiliate. In working IMS, the IWM institute has been particularly concerned with issues of application profiling and with the development of the Common Cartridge specification.
IWM offers consultancy services for the profiling of specifications. A service to test data for conformance with application profiles, in particular for the Common Cartridge specification, is planned to be released late in 2007.
