Alignment of IMS Learning Resource Meta-data with IEEE Learning Object Metadata
Following the publication of the IEEE Std 1484.12.1 - 2002, IEEE Standard for Learning Object Metadata (LOM) in July 2002 and meetings involving stakeholders from the IMS contributing membership, the specification for IMS Learning Resource Meta-data, is updated as described below:
- The IMS Learning Resource Meta-data Information Model 1.2.1 Final Specification is superseded by IEEE Std 1484.12.1 - 2002, IEEE Standard for Learning Object Metadata (LOM) found here, http://shop.ieee.org/store/:

- The IMS Learning Resource Meta-data Best Practices and Information Guide 1.2.1 has been revised and is superseded by IMS Meta-data Best Practice Guide for IEEE 1484.12.1-2002 Standard for Learning Object Metadata, Version 1.3 .
- The IMS Learning Resource Meta-data XML Binding Specification is replaced by the
IEEE Std 1484.12.3-2005, IEEE Standard for Learning Technology -- Extensible
Markup Language (XML) Schema Definition Language Binding for Learning Object
Metadata. IEEE Std 1484.12.3-2005 is available from http://shop.ieee.org/store/
in PDF format (Product No:SS95339 ISBN:0-7381-4710-9) or in print (Product

Version 1.2.4 - XSD Schema - Maintenance Release
The following changes have been made for v1.2.4:
1. Added the IMS Copyright statement ;
2. Removed the x: prefix references and ensured the import statement uses the W3C namespace (http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace) and schemalocation (http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd);
3. Changed name of schema file to "imsmd_v1p2p4.xsd" and made sure the version attribute to "IMS MD 1.2.4" to reflect minor version change;
4. The multiplicity of 'taxon' in 'taxon' path has been changed from 0..1 to 0..*. This problem was identified in the IMS Maintenance Database as issue: 198. This is now consistent with IEEE LOM;
5. The recursive element of 'taxon' within 'taxon' has been removed. This problem was identified in the IMS Maintenance Database as issue: 198. This is now consistent with IEEE LOM.
IMS Meta-Data v1.2.2 specification is is the public draft of an errata update
to correct minor
discrepancies in the schema. For descriptions of the Schema changes, see
the Change History in the header of the Schema document.

IMS XML Bindings, DTDs, and Examples
IMS Meta-Data v1.2.1 specification is an errata update to correct minor discrepancies
between element descriptions in the IMS Meta-Data Binding and Information
Model. The Meta-Data Schema (imsmd_rootv1p2p1.xsd) has also been updated.
For descriptions of the Schema changes, see the Change History in the header
of the Schema document.

Version 1.2 Final Specification of the IMS Meta-data Specification was released to the public in June 2001. The IMS Technical Board approved changes are noted in each document.
